Ndarundenga has changed hisher profile picture

In 2009 the Rangers were delighted to report that Maheshe had given birth to her first baby. Kabirizi was, of course, the father.

Baby Ndarundenga, the 6-month old son of Maheshe and Kabirizi.

Then in late April 2010 the Rangers found Ndarundenga dead. We have no idea why this baby gorilla died,  the Rangers monitor the gorillas every day and had not noticed that anything was wrong. What we do know is that Kabirizi had an interaction with Humba a few days ago, and then soon afterwards fought with a Solitary Silverback (we think one of the five habituated solitaries but we are not sure which one). So perhaps Ndarundenga was a victim of the interaction – it would not be the first time that this has happened - back in 2008 there was a fight between Lulengo and Mapuwa and we lost a baby as a result.
